2022 Volvo V90 Cross Country: Price, Review, and More About Wagon
The Volvo 90-series comes in two distinct styles or variants. First up is the S90 sedan, which rivals the BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and the V90 Cross Country wagon, which competes with the Audi A6 Allroad and Mercedes-Benz E450 All Terrain. No matter what form these cars come in; they make you feel calm, luxurious, stylish, and powerful. Last year’s special-order V90 wagons are gone, but many people don’t know their sales were down. This rugged-looking off-road V90 Cross Country was our test vehicle. It has gained much popularity, and people are still willing to buy it.
- 2022 Volvo V90 Cross Country
Volvo has changed up the 90-series lineup quite a bit this year. The base turbocharged engine is designed with a new mild hybrid version of the turbocharged and supercharged 2.0-liter inline-4, marketed as the B6. Fuel economy is significantly better with the new B6 engine, reaching around 25 to 26 mpg combined. These changes point to Volvo’s largest V90 wagon heading for a fully electric future.
The elegance and clean lines of the Volvo V90 make this model a great choice for drives. However, these basic lines create a timeless appeal and keen attention to detail in these cars. The beautiful interior of the car is attractive. The V90 is slightly smaller than the S90 in terms of size, but that works in its favor as a clever wagon outfitted with off road wheels.
- The Volvo Performance
Volvos are not performance cars, but they are comfortable and capable. The Volvo V90 is powered by Volvo’s supercharged and turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 engine. A 48-volt starter-generator and 295 horsepower mean the setup is down on power from last year’s 316 horsepower, but torque and fuel economy have improved. With the updated setup, there is a significant improvement in the powertrain’s smoothness. Compared to the outgoing T6, the B6’sB6’s electric power makes launches and supercharger-to-turbocharger transitions much smoother. In addition, the starter generator makes the engine feel a bit quicker and more responsive, and the stop/start function is almost undetectable.
With the base suspension, the V90 rides well, but it rides even better with the available air suspension. The vehicle’s handling is competent, but the German competitors’ versions slice through corners with more verve. Instead, comfort and control are the primary concerns. There are 8.3 inches of ground clearance on the V90 Cross Country wagons. Due to this, they are suitable for drivers who may encounter heavy snow or the occasional dirt road but don’t want to upgrade to an SUV. A responsive 8-speed automatic shuffles power to each corner regardless of engine power, and all-wheel drive is now standard across the line. The large Volvo excels at acceleration, ride quality, and isolation from the road.
- Affordable Vehicle
The Volvo V90 wagon is quite an affordable vehicle. The high-riding V90 Cross Country is rated at 22/29/25 mpg. The 2022 Volvo S90 is a safe choice for you, with some model features that make it difficult to compare to other sedans. The IIHS rated the S90 and V90 models as the top safety package thanks to excellent performance, although the headlights above do not receive a “good” rating. For the 2022 awards, it did not specify whether the V90’s front end is eligible for a re-award for crash protection, as it has not been replaced. NHTSA has yet to test the latest version of these Volvos, though again, we don’t expect the ratings to change. Standard fare is extensive, with adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitor, active lane control, and Pilot Assist, allowing limited hands-free driving. The vehicle’s camera system is optional, and the outward view is excellent.
- The Volvo Interior and Technology
Your interior detailing of these cars with attractive materials and attention to just enough buttons and knobs results in a clean, organized appearance that is very attractive to the driver. Luxurious without being pretentious, the Volvo V90 is a luxury wagon. Volvo’s biggest wagon has plenty of space. The black headliner can feel a bit hollow with some light interior colors.
Both base and optional multi-adjustable front seats offer fantastic support with an optional massage. With good rear seats and a somewhat low roofline, the Volvo V90 is a spacious, airy car. Cargo space is huge compared to the SUV, with 54 cubic feet, with the second row down at the top. Additionally, built-in outboard rear child seat boosters are optional. Fit and finish in our test cars are top-notch, and these cars come in a wide line of leather and wood colors.
This year the wagon is well-equipped with the Volvo V90 lineup. 90-series Volvo wagons are well-equipped compared to luxury cars, still offering excellent amenities like advanced driver assistance tech, 20 inch truck rims, large alloy wheels, leather upholstery, a decent infotainment system, and a standard sunroof. Does Volvo include a 4-year/50,000-mile warranty and its free scheduled service for the first three years/36,000 miles?
The V90 Cross Country comes in B6 trim only for around $59,545 for the Plus trim level. While the Ultimate trim line builds up to entry-level amenities inside, it includes four-zone climate control, 20″ larger wheels, soft leather with cool front seats, a crystal gear knob, a heads-up display, and Harman/Kardon audio. System included. Optional gear includes some packages that include a surround-view camera, heated rear seats and steering wheel, an impressive Bowers & Wilkins audio system, and air suspension in addition to massaging front seats.

As a ruggedly styled, all-wheel-drive luxury wagon, the 2022 Volvo V90 Cross Country is like choosing to be on your high school cross-country team rather than going out for, say, football or basketball: It’s admirable and aspirational.
